What is Plagiarism?

I have a bit idea about the word plagiarism. In my own understanding, Plagiarism is the act of copying other ‘s writings, story or copying any other’s thoughts, ideas and opinions. With the presence of the internet, online plagiarism is becoming common. Just today, I received a comment in one of my blogs from an online friend that goes this way’

“naku sis u supposed to embed your url or name in ur images or else u’ll be plagiarized..”

First of all, I appreciate your comment Bro. AJ. That was a good act of reminding me. I really appreciate it. I will try my best to follow your comment. Anyway, most of the photos I uploaded in my sites are taken by me personally. If ever it is not mine, I usually mentioned where it came from. I also try to put the source of some infos which I sometimes get from other websites especially from wikipedia. I always use some infos from Wikipedia for general information purposes. I believed Bro. AJ is also right because sometimes we also don’t know if some people are also copying and pasting our contents and photos. I even read this in one of my online friends that her review was copied by another blogger. I believed she wrote the original ideas because she posted it first to her blog compared to the other one.

I have here a meaning of Online Plagiarism. courtesy by Wikipedia. If you want to know more about it, please feel free to visit their site for more infos.

“Online plagiarism

Content scraping is a phenomenon of copy and pasting material from internet websites, affecting both established sites and blogs.

Free online tools are becoming available to help identify plagiarism, and there is a range of approaches that attempt to limit online copying, such as disabling right clicking and placing warning banners regarding copyrights on web pages. Instances of plagiarism that involve copyright violation may be addressed by the rightful content owners sending a DMCA removal notice to the offending site-owner, or to the ISP that is hosting the offending site.

It is important to reiterate that plagiarism is not the mere copying of text, but the presentation of another’s ideas as one’s own, regardless of the specific words or constructs used to express that idea. In contrast, many so-called plagiarism detection services can only detect blatant word-for-word copies of text. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism
