Nikon 1 J1 Repaired Under Warranty
I was lucky enough that time, but not so lucky enough during my travel in Africa last 2014 because the lens of my Nikon 1 J1 camera malfunctioned. For the second time, the lens 10-30 mm had the same error again saying this message everytime I turn-on the camera, “lens error, please contact Nikon service”. Thanks goodness, I still have the other lens which was also included when I bought it. I can still use the 30-110 mm lens. I believed all photography enthusiasts know the difference between these two lenses.
The first time I had the same problem was during my trip in the Balkan region visiting Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Slovenia. The same lens error also appeared on the camera screen. Good to know, I still have 2 other cameras with me making it sure that when tragedy like this occurs, I am already prepared. I am thankful, I have enough photos I took home as remembrance from my travels. I already learned it during my travel in Turkey last 2011 when one camera malfunctioned.
I bought the camera in a German electronic store in December 2012. The first time it malfunctioned was in April 2013 during a trip in the Balkan region. Since it is still in the warranty period, all I have to do is to send it to the nearest Nikon Service Center and it will be repaired for free.
I was lucky enough last December 2014, finding out that the camera was still under warranty period when I arrived from that trip in Africa. This time, I did another way. Instead of sending it direct to Nikon, I drove to the store where I bought it and they were the one who sent it to Nikon service center. It took around a week for the repair. In short, I have it repaired for free.
In Germany, when someone will buy an electronic or any gadgets or appliances, there is normally a years warranty period from 1-2 years. If you want to have a longer warranty, you can extra for it.
I am glad my travel buddy, the Nikon 1 J1 is repaired now. I can’t wait for the next travel in spring time. Cheers and hope you are having a wonderful start of the year!
